Accessible Cruising for Everyone |
NCL has always had an inclusive policy for all travellers and we really do believe that our guests with special requirements should have all the services possible to have a great time when they cruise with us. Here are some of the facilities you’ll find on board our ships. |
Guests with limited mobility |
We have up to 27 staterooms per ship that are wheelchair accessible with grab rails in the bathrooms, sinks and toilets, shower seats, raised beds, adjustable hanging rods in wardrobes, tilting mirrors and extra wide doors for easy access. Just one thing, if you do use a wheelchair, you must bring your own. Five of our ships also have alarm pull rods in bathrooms and alarm buttons beside the beds and you’ll find accessible toilets in a variety of public areas. On many ships we have dedicated wheelchair positions in the main theatres and where we don’t, wheelchair seating can be arranged. Our latest ships also have electrical hoists for access to the pools and hot tub. And, if you feel like a flutter, lower gaming tables and slot machines are available in our on-board casinos. For our younger guests using wheelchairs, we have wheelchair ramps or lifts so that facilities in our Kid’s Clubs and Teen’s Centres are easily accessible. We also welcome guests using motorised wheelchairs and scooters. So, if you’re intending to bring yours, you’ll just need to check that it’s powered by gel-cell batteries and that your battery charger is adaptable to the ship’s 110 voltage.

Hearing impaired guests |
| Three NCL ships have staterooms for hearing impaired guests. These offer vibrating alarm clocks and an indicating light system alerting guests to fire alarms, doorbells, smoke detectors and telephones. Those ships that do not have these designated staterooms provide TDD kits, which contain smoke detectors, door knock alerts, wake-up systems and a telephone alert. |
Visually impaired guests |
| NCL welcomes all service animals. For example, visually impaired guests who sail with seeing-eye dogs will be provided with a doggie box, which is changed daily by NCL personnel. Additionally, an NCL crew member will tour the ship with the guest on their first day on board to help them get their bearings. Many NCL ships have Braille indicators and audio deck announcements in the lifts, as well as cabin numbers in Braille and closed captioning TV.
|
Guests with diabetes |
| Refrigerators are available in many staterooms for storing insulin. |
Guests using oxygen |
| Guests who need oxygen or require oxygen therapy are welcome on all NCL ships; however, you must supply your own oxygen. U.S.-based Care Vacations is the only company allowed to deliver and supply oxygen to NCL ships for use on board or on tours. Let us know at the time of booking that you’ll be bringing oxygen on board, then contact Care Vacations direct on 001 780 986 6404 to arrange delivery to the ship. Just a couple of points to remember, the largest tank size allowed is D; liquid oxygen is not permitted; and the number of oxygen tanks per guest is limited by applicable laws and regulations. |
Guests requiring special diets |
| If you are on a low calorie diet, breakfast, lunch and dinner menus feature low calorie, haute cuisine dishes (showing dietary information) from America’s Cooking Light magazine. Sugar-free and fat-free desserts are also available. Gluten-free, lactose-free, sodium-free and dairy-free diets can also be catered for and must be requested at least two months before your cruise. |
Medical care for minors travelling alone |
| All guests 18 years or younger must have a least one guest 21 years or older travelling with them in the same stateroom. A minor not travelling with a parent or guardian must produce a notarised parental or guardian consent letter authorizing medical treatment in case of an emergency. This letter must be presented to an NCL representative at the pier. Failure to produce the letter at embarkation may result in boarding being denied. There are no refunds in the event of denied boarding. Click here to download parental consent form. |
On board medical care |
| Guests are entitled to free medication for seasickness. Customary charges may be made for all other services. Commonly used medications are kept on board and may be purchased at the office of the ship's doctor. Dramamine, Meclazine, Alka-Seltzer and aspirin are available free at the Purser's Desk. |
Pregnancy |
| NCL will not accept guests who will have entered their 24th week of pregnancy by the time their travel with NCL concludes. A statement from the expectant mother's doctor, stating her due date and fitness to travel must be sent to Ship Coordinator Department. NCL will not be responsible or liable for any complications of pregnancy which arise or occur during the cruise. To view NCL’s On Board Ship Accessibility Policy, please click here. |
